My brother was recently laid off from a mortgage house with
questionable business practices.
Apparently, the employer tried to get him to resign, to avoid paying
unemployment for him. It actually goes well beyond that.
He was told by the new manager

We are in escrow on a new home and we have been told it will take a
month. They want us to deposit the $50,000 down payment in escrow. But..
They will pay about 2% while it
sits there. and they want to charge us $50 for the honor.
