Hello, I am wondering if someone can help me understand the differences (if any) in the careers of patent lawyers vs. lawyers in more traditional areas. Specifically, I'd like some information about careers in larger "big city" firms. Background: I graduated with a BS in electrical engineering with highest honor (top 1%) from a top 5 (USNWR) engineering school. I did well on the LSAT, and I am entering a top 20 (USNWR again) law school this fall. Goals: I hope to practice in the area of patent law (litigation or prosecution - I'm not sure yet). I'll be taking the patent bar in addition to whatever state bar I need. I do hope at some point to become a partner, and I am willing to put in the work to accomplish this goal. I am not referring to NYC when I say "big city". I would have incurred more debt and gone to a "better" law school if that were the case. The law school I am entering is very well reputed in the city where I want to practice and somewhat less (although still well) reputed nationally. Question: Are there any differences in career paths for patent law vs. other law? For example, Do patent lawyers generally work the same amount of hours? Are patent attorneys in any more/less demand right now? Is the partnership track the same for patent attorneys? Will I have the same chances of making parnter - all else equal? Any other differences? Sorry for the long question - it's just hard to find specific information on patent attorneys. Thanks for any help you can provide. Brian
