Here in South Florida whenever there is a hurricane they set up checkpoints mainly to keep the Blacks from looting the wealthy beach area. Typically they only let residents back over the bridge but we are seeing on TV that in some places they are not even letting residents back to their homes. So elderly parents and pets are being left to weather the storm alone. When a "mandatory evacuation" is called do the police have a legal right to keep you from your home even if you have ID showing you belong there? The press is giving conflicting information. Without actual Marshal Law being declared how can the police get away with restricting a citizens freedom of movement? I tend to think this is all intimidation. I suspect if you told them to piss off and kept driving, in practice there's nothing they could do. SJH
