Insulted at work and disappeared the proof

I have a question about the place where I work. This is the big company and
one of my co-worker in the presence of another co-worker insulted me in the
elevator. He said, that I ma an idiot and made a fist. All elevators have
cameras. The second day when I went to HR, it showed up that the record from
that day and this elevator disappeared. It was my only one proof what
happened because my co-workers denied what happened.
Is it legal to insult somebody at work?
Is it legal to disappear the record from camera (proof)?
Doesn't security respond for this record?
Thank you for any suggestion.
Mark

Too bad. That must have been hard on the co-workers now trying to all
squeeze into one less elevator.

Ongoing? No. Once, its probably ok.
Is it legal to disappear the record from camera (proof)?
Well if the entire elevator is gone, it is consistent with the
cover-up.

Yes. Free speech doesn't stop at the time clock.
Insults that are so vicious and sustained that a hostile work
environment is created may (or may not) justify quitting for
unemployment insurance purposes; if they're directed at you just
because you are a member of a protected class, it may justify a
discrimination complaint.
Hostility that amounts to a criminal threat, assault, etc. would be
more likely actionable. A show of fists accompanied by "I'll see you
in the parking lot after shift and give you what for, idiot" could
rise to that level.
Is it legal to disappear the record from camera (proof)?
Even if there was a company policy on retention of camera tapes,
probably. Unless the business is one that has special security
requirements, there is no reason to keep the tapes other than the
convenience of the security department.
Doesn't security respond for this record?
Why should they? Unless there was a flagrant breach of company policy
or a crime committed on company property, they have discretion not to
pursue the matter.
