In Oklahoma, child support is a debt that accrues and cannot be discharged.
However, only child support in effect after October, 1991 will be so
regarded.
Prior to that, the child support is not collectible.
For instance:
If a child is born in 1979, is now twenty-five, and aged out at 18, in
1997. The child support owing would be from October, 1991 to 1997.
Other states may and probably will differ.

I have recently heard of three cases in Indiana where parents who were
in arrears in child support are now being made to pay. It is not the
parent who initiates these actions.....the so called dead beat parent
had no knowledge of the action until notified by the court. And there
seems to be a touch of insanity in these cases. The children involved
are now past 25 years of age. What is going on here? I believe these
causes of action must be prevelant else I would not know about these
three so close to me and my friends....needless to say, these law suits
are needlessly opening old wounds.
