Repairman Bailed With Money

Hi,
I hired a repairman out of the yellow pages to replace my exterior
air-conditioning unit. To make a long story short, he cashed my deposit and
never came back to replace the air-conditioning unit. He will not return my
calls.
What chance do I really have of getting my money back? All I have is the
cashed check which has his driver's license number. The address of his
company is non-existent although it's listed in the BBB. Through my company
I get legal counsel at a reduced cost so I feel there is value in pursuing
this wrongdoing.
Thank you in advance for your advice.

How much was it? Rather than hiring legal counsel, if it's under the
jurisidictional limit for small claims court, you can go to small claims
court (filing fee is about $100US) and get a judgment there.
File a complaint with the State licensing agency where your air-conditioner
repair person is licensed (if so licensed).
File a complaint with the police for theft (or something like that) too.
