As other replies have stated, your obligation to pay for the 30 days after
you give notice is controlled by:
1) the terms of your lease
2) statute, (usually state law)
In CA the controlling statute is Civil Code Section 1946, which says in
essence, you have to give 30 days notice.
If you are in CA you're kinda screwed but that shouldn't stop you from
trying to negotiate something. Its worth a phone call or two. Be polite.
