Hello, Several years ago Social Security gave me money because they figured that it was owed to me. A few years later they contacted me saying that they made a mistake. As a result of their mistake, they are requiring me to repay everything back. I have been paying back a little every month. However, things are different for me now because I am unemployed. I cannot afford to pay the money that I have. Also, I'm angry that I have to repay something which I believe isn't entirely my fault. I have filed a Waiver Claims or Appeal for a Waiver. I expect them to turn me down. I take it that I will have to fight it in court. Could anyone answer--or offer insights--to the questions I have? 1. How much, in general, does it cost to have an attorney represent people in cases like this? 2. What are the chances of me winning in court? Please remember it was an error on Social Security's behalf. And they have admitted it in writing. Thanks for any help, Martin Eden
