Hi,
I'm new to this list and hope someone can help me. My son was divorced
several years ago in Vermont and has his divorce papers.
He has a fiance in Italy (She's Italian) and they would like to get married
over there. Italy requires a document from a divorced person that states
that he has never remarried since his/her divorce. I don't believe that we
have such a document here in the US? Can someone help me or point me in the
right direction to find such a document.

You get the divorce decree from the Vermont court clerk.
You go to the US consular office in Italy with the decree and they know what
kind of letter to write that satisfies the local authorities. They can't
provide an attestation (because there is no "family register" or similar
record. So they attest that the citizen has made a certain statement, and
that this suffices under the laws of American states. Or something like
that.
