I know I risk being flamed immediately for this question, but here it
is: I'm unsure how much debt I owe, and I was wondering where I could
go to find out (if there is such a service/place).
I came through a long bout with clinical depression during which I did
not keep track of finances (there wasn't much spending -- I wasn't
employed). Most of the debt is from the time *before* this
depression, but my record keeping went by the wayside during my long
episode with depression.
I'm trying to gather all the information I can here at home, but it's
a mess -- quite literally -- and I was wondering if there was a way
for me to get some help with this, somehow.
I need to file for bankruptcy, soon.
peace,
paula
Obviously (?) the people to whom you owe money to can tell you how much you
owe. One way to find out some of the creditors and possibly the amounts is
to obtain a personal credit report. This is provided for free if you live in
certain states, or for about $9 in most other states. It may be free in all
states if:
1) you were denied credit, insurance or a job; or
2) you are on welfare or unemployed and looking for work; or
3) your report is inaccurate due to fraud
Go here to find the price in your state and for phone numbers of who to call
to get a credit report:

Keep in mind that not all debts may appear on your credit report.
