Bankruptcy and student loans

My question has probably come up before. I've searched and read
through the ng's and am still unsure.
I have a student loan which is in default (eMax Education Loan -
Servus). I wanted to try to consolidate this loan through the
goverments consolidation program but have found out that a.)I can't
include this loan on the consolidation b.)It is non-dischargable in
bankruptcy c.)there is no statute on the loan.
If anyone has any experience with a loan of this type, please let me
know what options I have (besides the obvious of paying it back!). My
biggest problem with it is I have my own loan with them and also an
ex's whom I co-signed and who has filed bankruptcy. I'm pretty sure
it's off of his back and now on mine. I've made some horrible
financial decisions and want to try to set it all straight. It's
conceivable for me to pay back my loan ... over the next 15 years or
so, but if I can't get rid of his then this will ruin me financially
forever.

Student loans are nondischargeable except under hardship criteria that few
people can ever meet.
Your ex's is not discharged unless his bankruptcy preceded the change in the
law on discharge.
Your divorce decree ought to have addressed the co-signing issue.

Our experience is that the presence of a recording stops the matter from
going to court. Most disputes are because one party thinks that they other
is being bloody minded, but it could just be a case of mistaken memory.
Listening to a recording lets one party understand why the other party
things that something different transpired.
