Is this apartment contract renewal valid?

Dear helpers,
The original apartment lease contract is 6 months period and clearly
states the contract is to both myself and another person (my wife). We
both signed the contract. However, due to the miscommunication, my
wife renewed the contract to extend to 12 months but I did not sign
the renewed contract or give any oral commitment. Since the original
contract says that any change is valid only both sides (the
landlord, and I guess both of myself and my wife) agree on it, my
question is :is this renewed
contract by my wife herself valid? We want to move out. And in fact we
received a notice in November to remind us to renew the contract. This
is in
Texas.
Any comments would by appreciated.
Thanks!

Based on my, admitedly, limited knowledge of TX law, the lease is valid
because contracts of this nature entered into by the wife bind the
husband. In this case, both sides did agree to the extension, but your
wife spoke for the two of you.
As another example, let's say wifey bought a car on payments. You would
be bound by this debt as much as she even if you opposed the purchase.
In short, there is a reason folks don't get married or regret that they
have and that reason is money.
