CA Law Back Child Support

I've been seperated from my wife for 2 years. However, we haven't gone
to court for anything..divorce, child support, etc.
For a year, I've been giving her 300 a month since my daughter has been
living with her. We are now in bad terms and she's told me that she
has filed for divorce/child support/child custody.
She's threatened to tell the court that I haven't been giving her any
money and that she's going to get back support. Is this possible?
Doing my own research, it seems, in the state of CA, child support is
due and collected once the case is opened.
Any help would be appreciated.

Not a lawyer as they say but pay child support in Calif and familiar
with the laws.
First, write "Child Support" on your checks. Otherwise the court may
consider the payment as a "gift" and not CS.
Second, in absence of a Support Order, which you indicate, there would
likely be no liability for unpaid child support. The liability for
Child Support in California typically begins when one goes to the
County's Family Support office and files to obtain Child Support.
www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/family is a good site for Dissolution
and Child Support information for California.

I'm not a lawyer but have travelled this road before. In my state
(Florida), Child support once established by the court, is due from the
day of the order. It didn't matter that we were apart for 2 years
before that day. I paid it too and she tried to pull that nonsense with
me. Check with a local lawyer (Usually a free consult over the phone)
to make sure and hold onto your nuts fella you may be surprised at the
amount you'll be required to pay.
Good luck to you
