Georgia lien law no suit in 12 month period what happens?

I understand that a law suit must be filed within 12 months of filing
a mechanics lien. But what the law does not state is what happens if
no suit is filed. I have a two year old lien that is clouding my
title for refinance. Is there some way to have it removed by a
judgement since no follow up was made on collecting the money. The
contractor was fired for shody work and overun in schedule and could
not support costs he was requesting.
Thanks.
