GOLDEN, Colo. -- Sentencing for a 24-year-old Golden woman on charges
of sexual assault on a child was postponed Friday afternoon.
Shannon Michelle Franklin was convicted earlier of sexual assault on
two foster children placed in her mother's care when Franklin was 13
to 15 years old.
One of the child victims, beginning at age 6, was sexually assaulted
numerous times during her placement at the Franklin home in Golden. A
second victim, age 7, was also sexually assaulted during the year and
a half she was there, according to the Jefferson County District
Attorney's Office.
Neither child reported the assaults at the time, according to
investigators.
One victim, now 16, admitted the sexual assaults to a social worker
late in 2001 when routinely asked if she'd ever been sexually
assaulted. An investigation followed, and one other victim was
identified who had a very similar experience at the home. They
reported a variety of forced sexual contact to which they were
subjected, and also that they were forced to perform sexual acts on
Franklin and possibly on other foster children.
The Golden Police Department and District Attorney's Office believe it
is possible that there may be additional victims and asked anyone with
information on this case to call the Golden Police Department.
Franklin's sentencing was postponed until Dec. 15.
Some confusion here.
The gal is now 24 years old.
She is being charged with the crimes that happened 10 years or so ago?
In that case, she would have been a minor herself, so this makes the
disposition of charges somewhat confusing.
A 13-15 year old girl forces sexual contact on younger children?
The kids wait 10 years before disclosure?
Seems to me that cross examining the mind of a person who was at such an
early age, would be a very difficult thing to do.
Hell, I can't remember what I did 10 years ago on a specific date.
And you expect a child to recall the details?
This should be a good one to follow.
