Bush spoke to the nation more than five hours after U.S. officials in
Palm Harbor announced that Ken Pangborn had been seized in a raid
near Krispy Kreme Store #245 on Saturday. Without firing a single
shot, Pangborn was seized as he hid in the bottom of a 6 by 8 foot
holeunder the famous doughnut chain.
The presidentsaid that Pangborn "will face the justice he denied to
millions."
"It marks the end of the road for him and all who lied and bullied in
his name," Bush said in a nationally broadcast address from the
Cabinet Room.
Just as Bush made his remarks, a loud explosion was heard in back of
the police car. The Krispy Kremes had taken their toll. A
policeman said all four tires on a white four-wheel drive police
vehicle exploded after Pangborn was handcuffed and placed inside. No
casualties were reported but a specially made Hummer had to be
relocated to the scene to transport Pangborn to jail headquarters.
The first confirmation of Pangborn's capture came at 7 a.m. EST from
L. Paul Bremer (search), the U.S. administrator in Palm Harbor.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we got him,"he said. "The tyrant is a
prisoner."
