http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4180623/ JAMAICA, N.Y. - A woman arraigned Friday on charges that she falsely accused several St. John's basketball players of rape told police she had agreed to have sex with the men for $1,000, according to an arrest affidavit. After having sex, the players refused to pay her so she called police and told them she was raped, police said. Sherri Ann Urbanek-Bach, 38, of New York, was arraigned on charges of prostitution, attempted extortion and filing fictitious reports. Urbanek-Bach, who did not have an attorney at the brief hearing, was freed Friday after posting $20,000 bond. Urbanek-Bach met the players at a strip club hours after the team lost a game against Pittsburgh on Wednesday night, and then went back to a hotel, police said. Doubts about Urbanek-Bach's story were raised after one of the players gave investigators his cell phone, which he had used to videotape some of the encounter, police said. While no criminal charges were filed against the players, St. John's disciplined the men "for violation of team rules and behavior inconsistent with St. John's mission and values." Grady Reynolds, a senior, was expelled from the Roman Catholic school; leading scorer Elijah Ingram, a sophomore, and senior Abraham Keita were permanently suspended from the team and both could be expelled. Freshman Lamont Hamilton and senior Mohamed Diakite were suspended and freshman Tyler Jones faces discipline that has not been determined, said school spokesman Dominic Scianna.

Well, my mom would be slightly bemused if I boinked 1/4 of the St. John's cheerleading team in a hotel room at once.... my wife (if I had one) presumably would not... :-) -- peace Kazuya

I think your mom would wonder how you accomplished that feat when you were only born with three legs. :) I almost married a woman who arranged 3-somes with me and a gorgeous young blonde woman who lived next door . . . it was my girlfriend's idea. If I told that one I was going to boink 1/4 of a cheerleading team, I think she'd wanna join us. :) -Dave

Strange to say, the rape shield laws are written so tightly in some jurisdictions that her charges might stick in some states. BTW, she was a pretty stupid hooker to extend $1000 credit to some drunk college athletes. And they're lucky she doesn't have a pimp that would take a straight razor to their faces for not paying up. Is it? You know, I wonder about that. I mean, if a john doesn't pay a prostitute, he IS stealing her services, but can he be charged? If a drug dealer sells a drug user flour instead of cocaine, can he be charged with fraud or theft? I would think that the fact that both parties are engaged in illegal activities makes that impossible, but you never know. Laws are weird. -- nimue "There was a time when I was young and gay -- but straight." Max Bialystock

You can't use the legal courts to settle up on an illegal crime. She's a ho, and got ripped off. Those are the breaks. She lied to police and said she was raped. That's a crime. I hope she does time.

It would be a large commercial crime, failure to pay for services rendered, except the law won't enforce an illegal contract. Bob -- When did we divide into sides? First thing we'd have to do is establish the value of the services rendered. They're not worth $1000 just because she says they are.

Two things stand out in this situation. 1. The sex was consensual. No crime of rape was committed. 2. The contract was illegal and therefore unenforceable.
