DENVER -- A well-placed source confirmed to 7NEWS that one of the key
witnesses in the Kobe Bryant sexual assault case has received a
defense subpoena to testify at next month's pretrial motions hearing.
Bryant's attorneys surprised Bobby Pietrack on Jan. 30 by serving him
a subpoena while he was in Colorado Springs to play basketball for
Fort Lewis College.
Pietrack worked as a bellman at the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera the
night of the alleged assault and saw the alleged victim and Bryant
together in public areas of the hotel. Many legal experts consider
Pietrack the prosecution's star witness because he reportedly was the
first to talk with the alleged victim shortly after she left Bryant's
hotel room.
Pietrack is expected to testify on the still unresolved issue of the
alleged victim's medical privacy. If that is true, his testimony will
be behind closed doors and outside the public arena.
Bryant's legal team and Eagle County prosecutors declined to comment
on or confirm the story about Pietrack's subpoena. All subpoenas are
under seal in the case, preventing the two sides from commenting.
