My girlfriend got into a big fight the other night -- it was very physical. She is now telling me that if i do not agree to pay her $10,000 -- she will call the police. What are the legalities here?

In California, that would be extortion -- threatening to charge someone with a crime, for gain like that, is extortion here. I don't know about Texas. (If she does go to the police, and they decide there's enough evidence to charge, you could be out a lot more than $10,000. You need a lawyer.) -- Not a lawyer, Chris Green

Good luck, police will lock away anyone with a charge and a piece of evidence. when at the police counter one time waiting to sign in for bail, the policewoman was offering options to the lady enquiring about charging her boyfriend, like a game show.... 'or, you can file a restraining order now and we'll include an extra week in the watch house'. if she's half pretty you're done for Herc

What state? Does not matter! You have a choice--lose 1 - 2- 3 or 4 times. Take your pick. Get counseling from a QUAlifed counselor. That IS one that makes sense to you and knows the law too
