I did post before but to no avail...........need to know where I stand....UK
law if anyone needs to know
I am a DJ and played 2 gigs on Xmas Eve and New Years eve just gone.
I am still awaiting payment, I have invoiced the people in charge and they
are disputing the amount.
No fee was agreed beforehand but the fee was based on previous gigs played
by me at the same venue.
My normal fee 3 hours work used to be 50 then doubles on in demand dates
such as Xmas eve and NYE
Because of demand my fee increased to 25 per hour basic
Now I agreed to do it cheaper than normal as a favour.
So 30 per hour seemed reasonable for an in demand date.#
I did 3.75 hours work each night becaue they had to close early.
I was scheduled for 5
so charging them 30 X 3.75 per night seemed reasonable to me.
I invoiced them with this fee and also added VAT as is standard practice.
They dont seem to be playing ball....can anyone offer any advice?

Andy,
I'm not in the UK so I can't advise you on the law but you indicate that
you worked in this club before. You also indicate that you had no written
contract. You want to be paid a premium rate for your work rather than your
basic rate. Did the club know about your premium rate schedule? If not it is
unlikely that you will get a premium rate.
The amounts involved are quite small. In the USA we have small claims
court, a court which is informal and from which lawyers are barred. If such
courts are available then you might wish to sue. Suing is not a good idea
since you will anger the club owners. You indicate that the owners are
disputing your billing so you and the owners are in communication which
suggests that you can try and negotiate a settlement. This should be
considered if you wish to work in this club again.
Good luck,
Dave M.
