I have a child on the way, and because of circumstance this recent happening is putting me in more danger. Out of the blue a collections attorney got a court order to clear my citibank checkings and savings account $9,000. The accounts are frozen. I tried opening a new account at another bank, but my name is now blacklisted and I can't even deposit my pay checks. Anything I can do?

See an attorney. If you can't afford one, try a legal aid agency. You or your attorney should get copies of what's in the court file so you can try to figure out what happened. ------------------------------ Bob Stock, California Attorney Nothing I've said should be relied on as legal advice. ------------------------------

I would recommend speaking with a bankruptcy attorney. My bank told me to call the lawyer in charge of the court order to seize my money, and negotiate a payment settlement as a way to release the account. Is this a good idea?

No moron, it's not a good idea. That lawyer works for the best interests of the person/entity that sued you. You asked a question in this group, and received legal advice to immediately contact an attorney of your own, preferably a bankruptcy attorney ... now what is your mental malfunction?

It doesn't hurt. But the problem is that right now, he has the $9,000. Most collection attorneys won't agree to release it, because it provides their client with absolutely no benefit to do so. -- Brett ***************************************************************** * Personal Injury/Malpractice Bankruptcy * * * * BRETT WEISS, P.C. * * Attorneys at Law * * Maryland, D.C. and Federal Bars * * lawyer@brettweiss.com * * www.brettweiss.com * * * * Small Business Estates & Estate Planning * ***************************************************************** The Small Print: This response is for discussion purposes only.
