ad infinitum

In the case of a lawsuit filed on behalf of a comatose son, where the father
is designated as guardian, ad infinitum. does the guardianship extend beyond
merely acting on the sons behalf to execute the lawsuit?

You're talking about a guardian ad litem, aren't you, fella? And no, the
guardianship pertains to the litigation only. See the clerk.

No such thing as a guardian "ad infinitum", so far as I've ever heard.
A "guardian ad litem" is a special kind of court-appointed advocate
for someone unable to make his wishes known. It's not a guardian in
the usual sense of the word.
If the father has a guardianship -- an order authorizing him to serve
as guardian (not unlikely in this situation) -- he would have such
powers as were granted him in the guardianship, but you would have to
read that to see what powers were really granted to him.

Well, then, quite obviously, you haven't seen Gibson's "The
Passion,etc."

I did watch "Lawrence of Arabia" last night, and that makes a pretty
good approximation of "ad infinitum".
