bad renter

Hi All,
I rented a house to a couple - both street cops. They did severe damage
to a number of systems and trashed the place. First time in 15+ years
in this business that a former tenant ever left me a complete car
engine, junk clothes washer and junk stove sitting in back of the
house!
I tell them I need their new address to send a claim for damages. They
refuse to give me their new address - give me a PO box. I send the
claim but it's never picked up. I file in small claims court for
$1700.00 and have the husband served c/o the police station where he
works.
This morning I get a call from the wife who acknowledges that they
received the papers. She immediately starts with an antagonistic tone.
I tell her - it's in the system, let's let a judge decide. Tonight, I
get home from work and my full garbage can is turned over, a plywood
sheet was moved, my door is unlocked and a cigarette butt is on ground.
How would you proceed?
Chas

Emergency Protective Order, [or whatever they know it as in your state]
Served By County Deputies, on BOTH D's at their Place Of Employment,
Prohibiting EACH from Coming Within 300ft of The Premises...
Canvas the Neighborhood for Witnesses who may have So Much As Seen D's in
The Area...
If you find such Witness(s), your Burden Of Proof in the Civil Action is,
of course, "Through a Preponderance of The Evidence"... "51%"... "More
Likely Than Not"...
There *Could Possibly* be even a Title 42 1983 Action available to you
Under These Circumstances...

Draw out a timeline and complaint. File it administratively by certified
mail with the Mayor, City Council, Dept. of Safety, their Captain, directly
to IA, and the local papers. You can contact your local activist group(s)
and watchdog agencies.
Try and get as many people asking questions about these two as you can.
Everytime they come up for promotion, the questions will be sitting there
looking at them.

Good idea. Would such a protective order operate WHILE THE COPS ARE
ON DUTY?
