NEWPORT - Stephanie E. Estep apologized Friday for the fear, anxiety
and suffering triggered by a story she made up about what happened to
her on the morning of March 1.
"I'm just sorry for what I caused everybody," the 31-year-old
Portsmouth resident said in an interview Friday afternoon, several
hours after she pleaded no contest in District Court to a misdemeanor
charge of filing a false police report.
"I know how it is to be afraid all the time."
Estep admitted that she made up the story that a stranger claiming he
had a gun carjacked her and made her drive from Broadway to a remote
site on Burma Road in Middletown, where he sexually assaulted her
before running off into the Greene Lane Navy housing complex. She said
she lied because she was fearful of an abusive ex-boyfriend, whom she
maintained punched her that day.
"I was so upset and I was scared," Estep said.
Middletown police have interviewed but not charged the 21-year-old man
Estep claims assaulted her. She said she obtained a restraining order
against him this week and had obtained court orders against him in the
past.
A South Carolina native who now lives at 59 Grain Terrace in
Portsmouth, Estep said she was working as a certified nursing
assistant at a local nursing home, but since March 1 has been on
leave. She is a single mother of three children.
Her complaint to police led to an intense manhunt by more than 40
local and federal law enforcement officers, who searched the military
family neighborhood at Greene Lane with dogs and guns while a news
helicopter flew overhead. Parents had to pick up their children after
school let out for the day because students were not allowed to board
school buses to go home. Children were kept
inside on a sunny day.
Leslie Cirelli, a Vigilant Street resident, said reports that a sexual
assault suspect was on the loose left her terrified to be alone with
her 20-month-old son while her husband worked overnight at Coast Guard
Station Castle Hill. Cirelli drove two hours to Springfield, Mass., to
spend Monday and Tuesday night with her parents.
"I was so upset that anyone would do that and make people think that
their own lives are in danger for something that never happened,"
Cirelli said. "Why would anyone lie about something like that
happening to you?"

All women ever do is lie. They will lie about even the most trivial
things. So it's no surprise that they constantly lie about more important
things.

The story includes the home address of the person involved.
It is not proper nor moral to post this person's home address in usenet.
You should at least edit that portion before posting.
Why don't you post the home addresses of Kobe Bryant and his accuser, the

That's not true. It's so not true that Harriet Harman is changing the
law to make it a requirement for men to prove they're innocent, in
cases where they disagree with women. Just so they can get his house
with more ease.

This woman should be placed on the sexual predator file so
authorities will know she is a compulsive liar whose word can
never be trusted.

Well, actually, she wasted some time, but she didn't accuse an individual-
wasn't she trying to explain the injuries from her boyfriend?
She may be easily panicked, but it ultimately was a simple waste of police
resources and time, rather than some 'sexual predator'. It might be an
appropriate to list her boyfriend as prone to domestic violence though.
Sure did @$#* up a bright sunny day though, didn't it?

She lied Chas. Remember what you say that does to her credibility?
And explaining away "a punch" by claiming rape is hardly an
improvement.
As for her injuries, none are listed in the report, explain to me
slowly whatever it is you assert she was trying to hide.
She may be easily panicked, but it ultimately was a simple waste of police

She's a liar Chas, how can you trust anything she says? You don't
trust anything Kobe says for the exact same reason, remember?
And anyway...

You understate the effects to a marvelous degree.

We don't even know that this is true Chas, what if she's also lying
about this? Oh wait, I forgot, you just believe the woman, apparently
even when they lie.
Sure did @$#* up a bright sunny day though, didn't it?
It's only a problem when done by men though, eh Chas?
BTW, why did you post the following when it clearly is not true?
# I'm the one calling for they're being charged, tried and
# sentenced to long terms in jail, as well as draconian fines.
# if you will recall, I've been falsely accused (not of a rape
# or like that), and I'm particularly involved in seeking justice
# against that particular crime.

I'm waiting for you to explain these "injuries from her boyfriend"
that you post about above Chas. Could it be that you are lying about
em?
She's a liar Chas, how can you trust anything she says? You don't

Yeah; you think he's going to break down and admit it?
What difference does it make?
Good plan.
It seems clear that with you, if a man lies his credibility is
permanantly shot, but if a woman lies, her credibiltiy is unaffected.
Sexist double standards anyone?
Her credibiltiy is in the exact same boat as Kobe's Chas, except to
supporters of women who make false rape accusations such as yourself.
I don't see you calling for her being punished Chas, and I don't see
you calling for "draconian" fines as you posted you did. Seems this
thread caught you in a lie. What does that do to your credibility
Chas?
