SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota (AP) -- Bill Janklow was on duty as South
Dakota's congressman when his speeding car collided with a motorcycle
last summer, meaning federal taxpayers would pay any civil damages
arising from the fatal crash, a prosecutor has concluded.
U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger's decision came in connection with a
wrongful death lawsuit filed against the former congressman and
governor by the motorcyclist's family.
In concluding that Janklow was on duty at the time of the accident,
Heffelfinger filed a notice Monday asking that the case be moved from
state to federal court, and the federal government be substituted as
the defendant for Janklow.

This is effed up. Murderer Janklow is claiming that every time a
federal official breaks the law and kills someone, the taxpayers
have to pay the damages in the wrongful death suit.
First of all, the prosecutor does not make decisions as to where a trial
will be held.
That decision is for a court to make.
The prosecutor does not determine whether or not the jackass was "on duty"
or not.
His job is to evaluate and present evidence that would convict the #@($ for
brains.
The mere fact of the speed of the vehicle alone is enough to put him in
jail.
Causing a death in the process is only nailing the coffin shut tighter.
What this prosecutor wants to do is to move the civil suit to a federal
level so the family can't acquire punitive damages.
Since when is speeding a federal crime?
Even though vehicular manslaughter is a felony, it is not a federal crime as
the federal government does not impose infractions involving vehicles unless
other circumstances were involved such as illegal drugs.
The prosecutor wants the case moved to a federal level so he is out of the
picture.
I wonder how many times the prosecutor played golf with the Senator?
