CA divorce question

"Troublemaker"

I wonder if anyone can answer this. Divorce papers were filed by my ex-wife
in 1992. The lawyer who did the initial filing kind of just disappeared, and
my ex went to a paralegal to assist in finishing the divorce. From what I
can gather, all the divorce needs is a "judgement packet" and to be
finalized. It is an uncontested divorce, and I just want to finish the whole
silly thing. She's taken a very "I'm tired of dealing with it, you deal with
it" attitude, so needless to say, nothing is getting done all this time.
I've been led to believe that I cannot do anything, since she did the
filing. Add to the fact that we were married in California, and I now live
in MA (she's still in CA), and I think this whole thing is a mess. Any
ideas - is there anything I can actually do? Thanks

Well, for starts you may have at some point in your life received a
legal divorce paper. Write the court where the papers were filed and
find out the state of the divorce. If it was sufficiently far enough
done, it may only require a photocopy of the documents. If the matter
never proceeded far enough, it may have been considered abandoned.
You need to find out the status.
The court file may contain legal copies of marriage certificates and
other relevant documents that you may need to obtain from them so you
can start your no falult divorce proceedings and bring closure.
