Not obvious from the story who's the at-fault party here. Whose pocket
should the $ come out of IYO?

Probably privileged anyway, but I don't agree that victims of crime

That is a bit hard to assatain. How cirtain someone is. Rape is a very
tramatic experience, it would be very dificult to keep a cool enough head to
look at your attacker properly. it woudl also be hard not to fill in the
gaps in your memory with your own expectations. Which is likly what happend
here, with the accussed man looking guilty to the woman?
Yes - she was a rape victim - 22 years ago, but he's also a victim -
he's had 22 years taken from his life, and they only give you one.
I dont think the number of years is going to make her any less a victim. You
cant get your innocents back again once it is taken. I'm not talking about
virginity here, i'm talking about associating sex with a loving partner, and
not fear and pain.
The fault does not lay witht he victim, it lays with the police beinging
happy with the identification. It lays with the police not investingating
all possible suspects. Most likly they used a lineup to eliminate suspects,
rather than using alibys etc.
I'm only guessing here. For all we know the girl could have passed out at a
party and been raped by anyone. The guy who was convicted could just have
been the unlucky one who was passing by when she finaly woke up.
Whatever happend it would appear to be the sloppy police investigation that
resulted in a conviction.
The police should have used more reliable evedence than a tramatised
witness
identification. Don't they way CSI on tv? ;)
People shouldn't get convicted on identification evidence alone. It's
forever leading to miscarriages of justice.
I agree. In fact there have been many studies showing that witness
identification is very unreliable except in the cases where they already
knew the person very well. Such as a neighbour or other person that you see
regularly enough to immediatly recognise them anywhere.
