High School Band Declines Invitation To Play For Bush
POSTED: 10:15 am EDT October 1, 2004
ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- A high school marching band has turned
down an invitation
to play for President George W. Bush during his visit to
Allentown, Pa, Friday.
The band from Parkland High School said it wants to remain
neutral in the presidential race.
The school superintendent announced the decision Thursday.
She said it's a
public school district and doesn't want to be divisive. Two
other school districts said their marching bands will play
for Bush at the rally.
Sean King, the director of marketing for the U.S.
Scholastic Band Association,
said he can't recall a high school band ever turning down
an invitation to
play for the president.
