IP law and felony conviction for copyright infringement

I've been in the software for 20+ years and have been doing a lot of IP and patent work recently. I've been thinking about a career change and going into IP law, however I have a big hurdle to overcome (in my mind anyway). I have a felony conviction of copyright infringement. Before spending the time and $$$ on law school, I wanted to find out if this was a deal breaker (I was convicted in 2002). It was over something stupid and I used to opportunity to learn more about IP law and our legal system, so I have sort of a special insight into that area :). I'd be looking to practice in MA/NH. Thanks!

It's pretty unusual for the feds to prosecute copyright infringement criminally, it's usually a civil matter. What were the circumstances?-Jitney

it's getting much less so. software piracy, no profit motive, just a stupid hobby choice.
