Hi, I tried researching this on the net, but couldn't find anything. This is not hypothetical, nor blown out of proportion. I am stating the facts that took place last Saturday October 30. Sorry for the length. Here is the situation: Several friends and I attended a Chiller Theatre horror convention last weekend at the Sheraton Meadowlands hotel in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This event takes place twice a year. It is not free. One must purchase a ticket to attend. The activities take place both inside and outside of the hotel. There are two sets of rest rooms. One is on the main floor, the other is on the second floor which is accessible by escalator and elevator. There were no temporary facilities (Porta-Potties) set up outdoors. Previous times when attending this event, ticket holders were allowed to come and go as they pleased. This time, they had to wait on a long line to access the second floor via the escalator. The men's room on the main floor was out of order. The men who needed to use the toilet were denied access to the second floor rest room via the escalator by an employee of Chiller. He was not a security guard, he was just someone hired for the event. He told the men to go to the back of a very long line and wait. Access to the second floor via the elevator was prevented by employees of the hotel. Only guests staying in the hotel were allowed to use the elevators. When one has to use the bathroom, waiting is NOT an option. As a result of this, men were outside relieving themselves behind every tree and bush. I am female, and found this revolting. I don't blame the men for doing it, I blame Chiller and the Sheraton hotel for allowing this situation to be created in the first place. Since I am a woman, and it could just as easily have been the ladies room that was out of order, I am wondering what the legality of this is? Women cannot "take care of business" as easily or quickly as men. And going outside and dropping one's drawers can result in arrest for indecent exposure. Had it been myself in this situation, I am not sure what I would have done. I think I would have first tried to talk to the hotel manager. Failing that, I would have faced down the Chiller employee blocking the escalator with my cell phone in my hand, and would have told him if he put his hands on me to physically restrain me and prevent me from going up to use the bathroom I would call the police and have him arrested for assault. Since I attend several of this type of convention at the same hotel every year, I would like to know what my legal rights are if I am ever faced with this situation. FWIW, I emailed both Chiller and Starwood Hotels and Resorts, the parent company of Sheraton, and told them of the situation. I have been ignored by both. No, I'm not looking to sue anyone, I just think the whole thing is a disgrace and don't think they should be allowed to get away with it. Thanks in advance for any information pertaining to this situation. Candice mrsfixit3 @yahoo dot com

That's what skirts are for! I am not a lawyer. I do not even see email sent to this address, due to past DOS attacks. If you wish to respond, do so through this newsgroup.

What type of convention would have denied you restroom access? That seems a little overboard!
