scanned documents

After collecting boxes and boxes of saved documents I am of the mindset to
scan all of them to decrease my paper bulk. For legal purposes, court,
internal revenue etc. are the scanned documents going to be sufficient
across the board and not have to retain the hard copy originals? thanks in
advance...

Some lawyers do that. They have three exceptions. First, they save
contract signature pages in paper form, although they seem to agree
that it's not necessary. Second, they scan, but don't throw away any
paper while the file is active. Third, they scan but also save the
paper if the nature of the file might lead to a controversy over
forgery vs authenticity. The scanned documents are believed to have
the same legal effect as the originals except when authenticity is at
issue.
