This is a poll to see how many people agree with police officers receiving
things such as free coffee, soft drinks, and doughnuts so the officers will
spend more on-duty time at their location:
1. Should it be acceptable for the police to receive gratuities(drinks, meals,
dry cleaning) from businesses that employ this practice so that the police will
spend time at their business?
2. Why do you think this practice should or should not be acceptable?

Mz Brick,
When the police are on duty and guarding the store with the free donuts
they are not patrolling or protecting the stores that do not supply pay
offs. This encourages more pay offs. Once the police get used to pay offs
and begin to expect them as a quid pro quo to perform the work for which the
tax payers have paid them then it should be obvious that they are no longer
working for the tax payers. They have become a tax subsidized private
security firm. Also, once it is established that the police are for hire
what will prevent the criminal element from hiring the police to do a poor
job.
While such corruption is wide spread in some countries it is not a good
idea. I believe the bible suggests that no man can serve two masters.
