Tony Cottell developed the Roach Motel System of USCF Finances. Any
money that came in did not go out.
He was a CPA who was twice elected treasurer. It was during the terms
of Tony Cottell as USCF Treasurer that the USCF built up a reserve of
two million dollars.
While doing this, Tony Cottell made lots of enemies in the USCF. He
was dismissed as a crackpot and became the most hated man in chess
politcs.
When he last ran for election, he finished a distant last place.
The last time he came to a USCF meeting was in Framingham 2001. Tony
Cottell presented a motion to put the USCF's LMA funds into a frozen
esgrow account where the board could not touch it. Cottell's motion
nearly passed. It failed by just a few votes. If it had passed, we
would still have that $2 million.
I understand that Tony Cottell now lives in Florida.
