They are not interrogating in the usual sense, to gain information. They are browbeating people into signing false confessions to use for propaganda. "Never in human history have such genocide and cruelty been witnessed. Such a genocide was never seen in the time of the pharaohs nor of Hitler nor of Mussolini." ~ Mehmet Elkatmi, head of Turkish parliament's human rights commission on Bush's atrocities in the Iraq war. -- Canadian Mind Products, Roedy Green. If they ever capture a suicide bomber I'd love to see the guy forcably bathed in pig's blood. That would be...... kinda funny, frankly.

Precisely! Just think -- only a few years ago, the world ADMIRED America, and looked up to us as THE definitive bastion of freedom and fairness. Today, most of the world very sensibly and intelligently LOATHES us as a warmongering nation it can no longer trust -- and one that no longer gives a flying rat's ass for personal liberties. In electing Bush to another term to follow the one he stole 4 years earlier, Americans have lost the right to be the least bit critical of what the Germans did for Hitler in the mid-'30s. Here we go again, folks. Only this time, it's US. With NO powerful ally of freedom waiting in the wings to set things right again. The world only THOUGHT it was in trouble 65 years ago. The COMING troubles it faces may look like a Sunday school picnic by comparison. For those who think that may be an extreme view... saying the same thing in Europe 70 years ago would have been regarded in that same light. Those who forget (and disregard the lessons of) history are doomed to repeat it. With the election of 2004, 51% of Americans may have laid the groundwork for unspeakable horror that can wrack the entire world. The best (and possibly only) way to avert that is for America's egalitarians, and the rest of the world, to THWART Bush's agendas at every possible opportunity, by all LEGAL means possible. -- Craig Chilton <xanadu222_@mchsi.com> ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Every time a person supports bigotry in public, and presents NO relevant FACTS to back his/her stance in behalf of a loathsome agenda against individual liberties and human rights, that person has -- ironically -- further **damaged** the cause he/she supports. And every time a fair-minded and sensible egalitarian opposes such a bigot, publicly, and **presents** relevant FACTS that are damaging to the bigot's agenda, that TOO is an additional nail in the coffin lid of the agenda, and a push of that casket CLOSER to the Drain of Extinction -- its well-deserved ultimate destination. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* (E-Mail address is valid when removing _ from it.)

Yeah. That would be *another* form of torture. But NO form of torture is acceptable to **civilized**people. NOR is it acceptable for a free nation to defy its Constitution and deny the rights that it GUARANTEES -- to any person. The USSR had a **great** constitution, filled with civil liberties. But prior to Gorbachev, it routinely IGNORED it. http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/12/21/guantanamo.interrogation.ap/index.html Here is more information that the ACLU has gained through Freedom of Information Act requests, AFTER the courts forced the government to obey the law. And the courts are still needed to get the government to obey the law. If this information had come out 6 or more months ago like it should have (the request is over a year old, and the says that it needs to be fulfilled within 30 days), Bush would have never been elected again. All the release dates are AFTER the election. Perhaps Bush had instructed them to stall for time so he could get re-elected, since there was no way that the government could win that suit. http://www.aclu.org/torturefoia http://www.aclu.org/torturefoia/released/doa.html Mark Sebree

Sad, but true. People don't know what they have until they lose it. We do some criminal defense work. We often see conservatives come to us that have been accused of crimes who are shocked at how they are treated. It is easy to talk about how we have civil liberties in this country until you are on the losing end.
In electing Bush to another term to follow the one he stole 4 years earlier, Americans have lost the right to be the least bit critical of what the Germans did for Hitler in the mid-'30s.
Absolutely! People think it is hyperbole - but it isn't. We ARE where Nazi Germany was in the 30's/ Hitler was even named TIME man of the year in the 30's (like Bush, this year.)

And just as with Nazi Germany, they THOUGHT they were invincible.

Yeah - real funny. What do you suggest we do with the US Military personnel who engage in murder? Or are you only concerned with suicide bombers?

I don't get it. According to Republicans, this kind of thing NEVER happens. We don't torture! We don't target innocent civilians! We don't murder! We are the good guys. I mean, could it be the Bush Administration is LYING to us?

Of course they are lying to us. Bush has been running a very secretive administration from day one. They have consitantly resisted and ignored Freedom of Information Act requests for as long as possible. And the Republicans in Congress are showing themselves to be hipocrits as well. They are complaining about Democrats doing their jobs and blocking less than a dozen of Bush's most extremist judicial nominees, when the Republicans blocked about 1/3 of Clinton's nominees. What's more, during the 17 months that the Democrats controlled the Senate under Bush, they approved over 100 nominees, almost 6 per month, an extremely rapid pace. Republicans ran smear campaigns against Democratic opponents and lied about them in the last election because the Democrats did their jobs, and refused to "rubber stamp" the Republicans' poor choices. The Republicans are also ignoring rules that they have used in the past when they were in the minority in Congress in order to get their way. The filibuster is the last line of defense that the Democrats have against a Republican majority that refuses to compromise and discuss matters. Orrin Hatch actually endorsed the filibuster when he needed it, and now he is railing against it. It seems that the Republicans only want their way, and do not care about anyone else. They are becoming an extremist party. Hopefully, enough Americans will wake up to this fact and vote many of them out of office before too much damage is done to this country. Could the Bush Administration and the Republicans in Congress be lying to us? Of course they are lying to us. That is what Republicans do when they are in power. And they are showing that they are truly hypocrits as well. Republicans seem to have short memories, and have no interest in the facts. They only are interested in oppression and taking away our rights. Mark Sebree

Agreed. Things need to get worse. That is what it took during Vietnam, Watergate, Iran Contra, etc. Sadly, people will die in the interim.
