ntelligence Agencies Hardup for Help Dec 27, 10:19 PM EST - Intelligence Agencies Face Staff Shortage By KATHERINE PFLEGER SHRADER - Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) -- Counterterrorism agencies are shopping for talent at job fairs, dangling generous scholarships and luring staff from each other in a race to overcome a shortage of analysts that may only get worse in the new intelligence overhaul... There is no consensus across the nation's 15 intelligence agencies on where staffing needs are the most acute. But few dispute that many more analysts are needed... To find them, Homeland Security and other agencies are heading to job fairs... above is an excerpt only - the whole article is here: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/ANALYSTS_WANTED?SITE=TXNEW&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT ====================================== They're truly scraping from the bottom of the barrel - the best and the brightest see the massive web of lies and deception, the parallels between Bush's & Hitler's regimes - and naturally don't want to be a part of that. Fer'sure. It wouldn't be so bad if Bush and Intelligence weren't like latitude lines on a globe, the one with the smallest circumference being Bush.

Unfortunately, they aren't willing to actually PAY intelligence analysts worth a tinker's dam, so all their scouring the job fairs, colleges, etc. won't count for much until they start off paying analysts more than $25,000-$30,000 per year (in Washington DC, where rent begins at about $1000 per month for a flea-trap) B2000

You are mistaken. According to USAJOBS, an Intelligence Operations Specialist starts at $50K in DC. See link for the job. http://jobsearch.usajobs.opm.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=25431606&AVSDM=2004%2D12%2D17+15%3A30%3A28&Logo=0&col=dltc&cy=&brd=3876&lid=&fn=&q=intelligence

And, more sadly, you cannot read the job announcement. This is for a position in Homeland Security, NOT CIA, for example, and by its very description under Qualifications, it is NOT a basic position, but is a GS 11/12 position, which is a senior position. Here are examples of basic positions in intelligence analysis: http://www.cia.gov/employment/jobs/analytic_methodologist.html Analytic Methodologist (Think: analyses aerial photographs) http://www.cia.gov/employment/jobs/collection_analyst.html Collections Analyst http://www.cia.gov/employment/jobs/econ_analyst.html Economic Analyst http://www.cia.gov/employment/jobs/political_analyst.html Political Analyst (Think: "Three Days of the Condor" - Redford's job) http://www.cia.gov/employment/jobs/open_source_off.html Open Source Officer (Foreign Media Analyst) As you may note, the basic rate of pay for these positions begins about $37,900 or less, or about the equivalent of a GS 9, which is a very basic entry position - something a college student might be able to qualify for - IF (and this is a big IF) they have the requisite skills (language, study in specificed areas, etc), as defined in each of the above job announcements. These positions top out at about a GS 13, step 10, so the final figure listed on the announcements is what one might make after 20 years' service or so. In general, one needs to earn 30-40% higher in DC than in most every other part of the country just to break even, so a salary of $37, 900 spends in DC like roughly $25,000 elsewhere, if that good. With housing about 40% higher in DC than the rest of the country, not likely this rate of pay will go even that far. So, until the intelligence agencies are willing to be more realistic about wages, I am not surprised they have problems recruiting. B2000
