at job fairs, dangling generous scholarships and luring staff from
each other in a race to overcome a shortage of analysts that may only
get worse in the new intelligence overhaul...
There is no consensus across the nation's 15 intelligence agencies on
where staffing needs are the most acute. But few dispute that many
more analysts are needed...

the brightest see the massive web of lies and deception, the parallels
between Bush's & Hitler's regimes - and naturally don't want to be a
part of that. The only people they're hiring are relatively blind and
ignorant people - kids who unlike previous generations, have wasted
tens of thousands of hours playing violent video games- like many
American soldiers. Unfortunately they assume that their leaders are
decent, moral and respectable people. They are ignorant enough to
believe the party lines - that the invasion/occupation of Iraq is a
legitimate aspect of a logical "war on terror" and that we have
democracy, + liberty and justice for all in the USA.

worth a tinker's dam, so all their scouring the job fairs, colleges,
etc. won't count for much until they start off paying analysts more than
$25,000-$30,000 per year (in Washington DC, where rent begins at about
$1000 per month for a flea-trap)

In general, one needs to earn 30-40% higher in DC than in most every
other part of the country just to break even, so a salary of $37, 900
spends in DC like roughly $25,000 elsewhere, if that good. With housing
about 40% higher in DC than the rest of the country, not likely this
rate of pay will go even that far.
So, until the intelligence agencies are willing to be more realistic
about wages, I am not surprised they have problems recruiting.
