Actually, it's not news, is it...the IRS will chase the working stiff, but the fat cats walk away free.... http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime_file/story/115996p-104644c.html EXCERPT The Bronx businessman, a former chairman of the Bronx County Democratic Committee, cut a deal with prosecutors in June. He admitted to evading city and state sales taxes in a plea bargain that kept him out of jail. Gidron, 64, who was snagged during a probe of political corruption by Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau's office, could have faced 25 years in prison if convicted at trial. .... "He's paid a very, very heavy price," said his defense attorney Flora Edwards. The car dealer has already repaid more than $750,000. Wetzel gave him 60 days to pay an additional $450,000. .... Gidron, the owner and president of a large Cadillac-Oldsmobile dealership in the Bronx, admitted collecting sales tax from customers but not turning all of it over to state and city authorities between 1995 and 2000. Morgenthau said Gidron evaded a total of $5.4 million in taxes dating back to 1991. But when he was indicted in 2002, the statute of limitations had run out on the earlier crimes.
