I also have a bank account in New Orleans. Paid someone in the small
town using Hibernia check. On presenting to same small bank, they
informed her that the check was suspect and that they were
'investigating' my NO account. This is intolerable.

Small town, paid in a perfectly good cashiers check. Waited 5 days for
it to clear. Wrote checks locally. All checks returned unpaid. I get
'insufficient funds' charges. I wrote a check to housemate, she goes to
pay it in, gets grilled in the bankin

It depends upon the reason the JT acct was set up, if it was to pay
bills for the decedent, then the money may belong to the estate.
However, if the JT acct is a long standing one, then it can be viewed
that who ever is depositin
