eorge M Weinert V ..RU Student ID: 960062292 http://mercylakefront.blogspot.com/ Wednesday, February 20, 2008 To Whom It May Concern, The writer, a 56 and 1/2 year old Paralegal Student in the Roosevelt University Certificate Program has written to your agency before regarding the heinous elder abuse, civil rights abuses and criminal management of Chicago's Mercy Lakefront Housing. Though these please have been largely ignored the legal abuses are continuing immediate action! This morning the writer was forced to suffer though sub-zero temperatures in order to make a THIRD Appearance in Chicago's Eviction Court [1] The first appearance was on Feb 5, second on Feb 13th and the third today. Despite this immoral persecution, I am juggling three Paralegal courses and have to date managed an A Average. This is not going to be possible if this abuse continues and my health continues to deteriorate. I have been forced to seek medical attention since the abuse of Mercy Lakefront's criminals has driven my blood pressure sky high and my concentration and great shall soon suffer. It is understandable that the high school drop outs, drug dealers and crack ho's that 'manage' Chicago's Mercy Lakefront SRO Housing want to sabotage my career and education but this is ELDER ABUSE in the EXTREME!!! I am STILL BEING FORCED TO WALK MILES IN SUB-ZERO WEATHER SIMPLY TO DO MY LEGAL RESEARCH FOR CLASSES AND NOW BEING ABUSED BY THIS DETESTABLE EVICTION ATTEMPT TO BOOT - AND I AM NEARLY 57 YEARS OLD!!! HOW LONG WILL YOUR AGENCY REMAIN SILENT? I have attempted to mediate this outside of court as detailed below: I am writing to you as a fellow Older American who will hopefully understand the abuse and Terror that I have been subjected to and pray you understand the current threat to my future and can intervene to find a solution. As you are surely aware, I received a Summons to Eviction Court on Feb 05,2004 last night at about 5:30 PM. I was stunned, since the last communication I had with Ms. DuPart, The Mercy Lakefront Property Manager was in regard to my Rent, which we had agreed on as $30.00 (one third of my $100.00 per month in LINK CASH). Since I was under the impression that settling this issue was all that was required, being greeted with a SUMMONS from a Cook County Sheriff was a real shock. I began my Classes Monday, Jan 28, 2008 in the Roosevelt University ABA APPROVED Paralegal Certificate Program. I am currently enrolled in three classes - two of which meet at 12 S. Michigan on Monday and Friday from 9:00 AM Till 12:45 PM. I have been approved for two Perkins loans and RU has handled all the details regarding financing for this year long part time Program. The part time program lasts a year and results in a highly prized ABA Approved Paralegal Certificate. It is one of the most highly praised in the Country and will allow me entry into the explosive Paralegal Field. This is like going to law school in a year and I will be very busy. Securing the funding and location has taken three years and now it is all threatened and will be lost if the current injustice continues. I am saddened that Ms. DuPart has never found my unit "Passable" but Ihave done everything in my power, including aid from Case Manager Walter Rogers, [2] my neighbors Joe Day, Vernon and Bruce Henricksen. [3] Though I have gotten on my hand and knees to clean the floors, it has never been sufficient and I have "Failed" all inspections. [4] This, coupled with denial of services and continued discrimination are the reasons for the MercyLakefront Blog and the reports on elder abuse. I AM GOING TO BE 57 SOON and TIRE OF THIS CONSTANT ABUSE. All of my pleas for Mercy have been for naught so what else was I to do but let the facts be known? [5] At 57 years of age, going back to school and getting a certificate is going to be hard enough, and nearly impossible considering the current state of affairs. Though I have two hernias, a gun shot wound in my left leg and a badly mangled left ankle and barely any teeth I am going to try one last time with the Help of God. Sadly I have met nothing but resistance here at Mercy Lakefront and now "Management" want to ruin any chance at re-entering the workforce I have. I trust that you will sympathize with my dilemma and perhaps we can find a compromise unless you also feel that I should be crucified because of my age, race and desire to help myself with the Help of Our Lord. I am saddened that Mr. Mintz, [6] Mr. Floyd [7] and now Ms. DuPart [8] all seemed intent on casting me into the street but have done nothing [9] to deserve such treatment. All of these abusers have been African Americans half my age and all have abused other tenants. [10] I have only tried my utmost to lift myself up out of the maze of elder poverty and despair. If I must apologize for that, so be it. Why must our older Americans be abused like this and why is the abuse so acute when it comes to Caucasians? If a compromise can be reached either with Ms. DuPart or residence in another building, please advise post haste. I will be very busy with my Paralegal studies and shall be only a few blocks from the Mercy Lakefront loop offices and would be glad to discuss the matter. I have always been an A student [11] and plan on continuing my record of academic achievement with the help of Our Lord. At nearly 57 years of age, I have my last big chance in life now to do something worthwhile and pray that it shall not come crashing to the ground due to this unfortunate series of incidents. Since I have been the victim of same, I plan on specializing in Homeless and Elder Law so I can help the Helpless as Mercy Housing, Lincoln Park Community Shelter and Franciscan Outreach have helped me. Why do you want to ruin this and cast this Older American into the street? The facts remain: 1. I have been denied access to internet, phone and fax for four years at the Mercy Lakefront ETE Center which has resulted in an inability to find any employment in clear Violation of the Equal Opportunity Act. Although I have the remnants of a gun shot wound in my left leg and a badly mangled ankle on my right I have been forced to walk up to seven miles a day though rain, ice and snow simply to get my email and retain professional communication and this torture has caused me great physical pain and severe emotional distress, Though one of my Paralegal Classes in being taught on line and internet access is crucial to my academic success, I am denied any chance to do my work and am forced daily to walk miles of go downtown simply to do vital legal research 2. I have been denied Job Training opportunities [12] (though I arranged for them on my own via Roosevelt University) [13] and victimized because I protested since charges have been filed with the EEOC regarding the racial discrimination common in Mercy Housing which is an odious violation of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act 3. While my hard won efforts to secure Additional Education and Job Training have been blocked at every turn, select members of minority groups have been rewarded with generous financial assistance and favored status in clear Violation of the Equal Educational Opportunity Act and Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act 4. I have been terrorized by threats of "Ev
