I sent them an e-mail about a possible refund for the amount we had paid to have them do a deed transfer for our house (I thought at least I could get this back since they hadn't actually started this portion of it for us yet).... at that time, and much to my surprise they offered me a full refund for the entire document! All I needed to do was mail it back to them. Within a week my credit card was refunded for the FULL amount.
I absolutely WILL use them again!

LegalZoom's Living Trust worked perfectly, 6/9/2009 5:02:40 PM | | Reviewer: Debbie K. from Bellevue, WA | Last year, my brother was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, the prognosis wasn't good by the time it was discovered, it was already at an advanced stage (pancreatic cancer). We scrambled to get a Living Trust together, since he wasn't married and had no children. I wanted to use an attorney, but my brother was in no mood to speak to a stranger about his finances and these types of delicate estate planning issues. So instead, I asked him what he wanted to do with his house and brokerage account (his main assets). Based on a friend's recommendation, I went to LegalZoom for a Living Trust and a Power of Attorney for health care (which they call a Living Will).
It was generally easy to use, and they had a guide that I read before I completed the questionnaire. After they sent the documents to me by mail, I still had to complete another form for the house, and then they had to send the deed for my brother to sign, but otherwise the process was straight-forward and private. I contacted the brokerage to see what I needed to do to transfer the account, and simply had to open a new account in the name of the trust and then transfer the assets into the new account. A little tedious, but not that difficult. My brother didn't have a lot of other assets, but I could see how this could become a hassle if he had numerous accounts and investments.
This spring, the cancer spread and my brother lost his battle. I was named as the trust administrator, so I contacted a local attorney for help. It still cost some money for the attorney's help, but everything worked out as planned. And the attorney said it was MUCH less than he would have charged if it was a Will and had to go through probate.
Overall, I was very pleased with LegalZoom. If you don't mind doing some of the work yourself, in terms of changing the names on the accounts and such, I'd would recommend them without reservations. |

What was almost a disaster was turned around by a customer representative named Tanya. When I submitted my LLc paperwork, I made a mistake in adding the shares allocated to an investor in the company. It was several days before I caught it. When I called Legal Zoom, Tanya answered and told me that the paperwork had already been submitted to the state and there wasn't much that could be done now! Well, I was obviously disappointed and Tanya asked me to hold on. She personally contacted the VP of Business Services who fixed the issue himself. I don't know what they did... resubmitted the paperwork, or amended them, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that Tanya and the folks at Legal Zoom really went above and beyond. |

They gave me instructions on how to check it and sign it, the witnesses I needed to have watch me sign it, and how to make changes in the future. I'd definitely use the service again. After a couple brief phone calls, she advised me on how to most quickly make the needed changes to my living trust. I did as she advised. Within an hour, I received an e mail from Ms. Ives stating that she was making all the necessary corrections and would send an amended will out soon.

What a great way to make money and further back it up with numbers-FANTASTIC! They must be raking it in! I want to be like Legal Zoom and rake it in too!!!!
I sat on the phone with my accountant and went through the entire website. Before I did this I talked with an attorney who put it all in laymens terms. Because I had another set of eyes to answer questions, I found it very easy to accomplish my goal of creating my LLC.

For the first 3 businesses, I formed 3 separate LLCs with the help of a local attorney. I think I paid close to $2000 for each! I thought I was getting a good deal. But I remember thinking that these LLCs were very simple, especially since all 3 LLCs were set up exactly the same.
When I started the 4th company, I heard about LegalZoom on the radio. So I decided to give them a try. I went online, completed the questionnaire, and submitted my payment. The process was very simple, and the best part was that they would send me email updates regarding the status of my LLC filing. (your company name is available, documents have been sent to the Secretary of State, your LLC has been formed, here is your filing number, your tax ID number has been obtained, etc.). All this for less than $500. I even got a company kit, with custom stock certificates, seal, and more.
When compared to the first 3 LLC formed through an attorney, I have to say Legalzoom's service was by far the best deal. I still remember calling the lawyer countless times for status checks and such....Kinda frustrating especially paying $2K for each LLC. Still wondering why he never gave me a discount(???).
Forgive me for writing on and on about LegalZoom....but I just thought people should know. From one entreprenuer to another....
One last note: I still use my lawyer for complicated matters litigation, contracts, and legal advice......but not for simple matters like setting up a simple LLC or registering a trademark. I'd go with Legalzoom. But before making any important decisions, research online, you'll be surprised what's out there. Good luck to all!!!

Because I designated them as the Registered Agent, a surprise of $159.00 was deducted from my account the same day as my agreed upon monthly installment payment. I called the 1-800 number on their website only to be placed on the hold abyss for over 1/2 hour with no live person ever picking up my call.
Mind you, when I filled out fields online for my LLC, when it came time to choose a Registered agent, nowhere in the explanation of such did it mention an additional $159.00 would be charged. Additionally, upon completion of the online forms, the full amount was given to me for which monthly payments would be deducted. The $159.00 taken out of my account was not listed on the Order form at all, even after it was deducted from my account.
Do not use Legal Zoom unless you want to be surprised by hidden fees being automatically deducted from your account. I have since filed a complaint with the BBB and have canceled my credit card.

Hidden fees, misleading sales info, and ANNOYING customer service, 2/15/2012 10:56:04 AM | | Reviewer: Heather Head from Charlotte, NC | I was pretty happy with Legal Zoom at firstprompt service, very friendly during the sales process, and my order proceeded without incident.
Then it came time to change my address. I had told them during the purchase process that I was going to be moving into a new office in a month, and asked whether I should wait to incorporate. They said, No problem. We'll take care of all the paperwork when you movego ahead and file.
Move into the new office, call to tell them my new address, find out there is a $50 fee to change my address.
Worse, the customer service wait times are horrific, and they seem to screw up around every bend. There was some confusion with my credit card not going through to pay the Registered Agent fee, so they called me. No problem.
Except that they called me six or seven times in a row without ever leaving a message, and when I tried to call back to sort it out with them, I had to wait in line for the next available representativefor so long that I finally gave up and waited for them to call me again.
When I finally did get in touch with them, I was told I would be called back in a couple of days, after I'd had a chance to speak with my bank and sort out the problem (which turned out to be that LegalZoom had the wrong address for my credit cardprobably because my bank doesn't charge me $50 to change my address).
So they called me back today... over and over when I was in the middle of a client meeting... again, without ever leaving a message. I finally picked it up and told them to please leave a message next time and that I would call back later.
Of course, now I'm waiting in line... again... to talk to someone so that I can pay my bill. If anyone has a recommendation for a Registered Agent with comparable fees and GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE, please let me know. I am so done with this company.

I chose to use them because I thought they offered a low price and customer support service. I should have just printed the forms myself and went to a paralegal to fill them out and I would have saved myself $65.00 - local paralegal charges $75.00 for the service, LegalZoom- $139.00, but after reading: ...A helpful checklist of relevant government agencies and financial institutions to notify after receiving your new name... description on LegalZoom site I assumed that I would be helped with post-court forms as well. When I called (800) 962-7490 to find out if I should use my old signature or the new one on SS-5 Form Chanel told me to ask the Social Security Office. I'm not impressed.
I will never use the LegalZoom again, nor will I recommend their services to anyone due to high prices and lack of customer service.

2. Because I designated them as Caretaker, a surprise of $159.00 Young lady seemed rather rude, kept repeating the same thing over and over. LZ did not inform me there was a charge for LZ to be Caretaker the charge messed my books up and bank charge and the young lady gave me a big legal maze I have to climb through to get my$159.00 refunded. That is alot of legal talk. Lesson learned... don't use LZ again.

The first filing went ok but the clerk had to tell me to add some dates and signatures that were not in the legal zoom directions. The second filing was rejected twice all on the same kind of thing dates and details. When I got the first rejection legal zoom was pretty responsive, when I got the second rejection they stopped communication. I finally went to a paralegal and got him to review my papers. The devil is in the details.
If I had it to do again and I wanted to save money I would buy the book and you can print the forms off the courts website. Then I would go to a paralegal and just get the final help if I needed it. This is for a non contested divorce. |

I already knew how to search online in my state to find corporate filings, so I knew that it was just sitting there...although in their order tracking...it stated that they were still waiting for response from the State. In my state, filings are processed in 7 business days, yet this status remained for over 1 month. Then, when the filing was complete from the state, the LegalZoom website did not update...and I changed my mailing address with them. Too late though, they sent out the package to the wrong address. He jumps to conclusions without reading the entire paperwork and responds by e-mail or phone seeking an answer to a question when the answer is there in front of him in print. LZ tries too hard to live up to their name of Zoom while sacrificing quality. It seems they are more interested in getting work moving along and off their desk. So much so that they do not understand a customer request for Hold and continue to badger the customer about finishing a process even after a request for a Hold. You get what you pay for, which in this case is poor service for cheap prices.

While their website was fair and straightforward in use I have a serious complaint. As background, I am starting a small business. I had the articles of incorporation sent to my residence by UPS. UPS reported left the articles in front of my door. I never received the package. Now I have ALL of my personal identifying information out there in someones hands. When I called to ask the company about it, they said well it's really UPS's fault. Actually, legalzoom shipped it and did not require a signature for delivery. If you value your privacy and do not seek to risk identity theft DO NOT USE LEGAL ZOOM. What a huge headache to have to worry that someone out there is ruining my credit as we speak. Using the phone to do so is seemingly intended to frustrate the process. No one answers but I do get a recording that says someone will call back within two hours. Since I can't sit by the phone that long, all the return calls happen while I'm away. So, I tried to cancel via email. It's been several days but no response. I always am suspicious in circumstances like this that they intentionally make it difficult so that you give up in frustration.

Unknowingly being charged a membership fee, 3/21/2012 10:26:49 PM | | Reviewer: Yuemin from New York | I created the first document through legalzoom last year. I thought it was efficient and cost saving. However one thing I was unaware of was some membership fee after 30 days. It is not easy to identify as it was bundled with a few others as included. This was a forced-on option during your checkout. On the receipt you will not know what you could do after the trial period because they did not say anything. Beyond, they never send you a receipt after a charge every month. I hope they will refund those charges. For now I cannot order more documents because of those marketing pitches from the company, let along recommend anyone to use any of their services. I have no confident what I may get next time. To me it is a small thing I may lose three months of fees, it is important that they can convince me they are running an honest business that I can use without a second thought. It is called the trust.

It was my fault for not catching it earlier but now 6 months later with $14.99 charges my wife sends an email about it and get's no response about the charges and getting a refund. However, they did cancel it for us.
Checking the review on this site, I've read that this has happened to other people on here and that legalzoom customer service said they'd refund if they'd call.
I just did that and they refused to refund any of the paid for months. I'll never recommend or use again.

As my family and I was going through the process to get started they recommended that we use the comprehensive package and showed us all the reason why. When you get to the check out you get the price and it tells you that you get a 30 day free trial for a preferred package. YOU BETTER NOT STOP READING THERE FOLKS! Below that in italics is the point that YOU have to cancel this free trial after 30 days or you will be charged $14.99 a month forever. You will get some emails telling you some legal things, but never a reminder that your credit card is being billed. Now I know that they will come back and tell me that it is on the page and we should have read everything...they will be correct, but this just isn't right and not to the ETHICAL STANDARDS I expect from a site that is helping with legal issues. I am out of here and will not use them again.

Not only did they mispell my company's name on both (in 2 different ways) they took almost 2 weeks to answer me. I've left messages for people to call me back and who never did (Johnny #7282 and Patty #8720) sat on hold for 40 minutes waiting for anyone to answer their phone. Only when I emailed again asking for a refund THEN did they want to try to fix the mispelling. At which point I talked to an incredibly rude Mary in escalations. After all the hassles and run-arounds I just wanted a refund which they refused to give me.
Avoid Legalzoom if you want your documents filed right.

After that is finally taken care of, now it started over with another problem (registered agent) and I am glad I read these reviews about monthly charges as I was just about to make THEM my registered agents...
phew.. as much time and energy as was lost on this so far, I could have really just filed myself.
I wanted this for the ease and convenience, not because it's a service I require. Now, I just paid for a huge pain and np progress.

hidden costs with legal zoom, 10/1/2011 2:29:00 PM | | Reviewer: Gay Rife from Indiana | I paid a considerable amount of money in March to have Legalzoom set up our LLC. That went well, but after it was concluded I found additional monthly charges being put on my charge acount that I was not aware of. I contacted them about them and found it was for them being my resident agent. I told them I did not want or need them to be my resident agent and was told I would have to change it with the Secretary of State and send them copies of the change. I told them I did not want any of their extra services. When I tried to call their local office, there was never anyone there to answer the telephone. In about 2 weeks I had the resident agent changed with the secretary of state and sent legalzoom the documents. Then low and behold I find we are being charged another monthly fee. When contacted I was told this was for their advantage program which was free for the first 30 days. Since I had told them I didn't want any extra services, this should not have been activated. It took three transfers of personnel to get this corrected and in the meantime, I am out $30 per month because I did not call to cancel something I did not know I was receiving. I will definitely not be doing business with legalzoom again and I advise anyone thinking of doing business with them to watch for hidden charges.

Worst ever, 8/30/2011 2:09:26 PM | | Reviewer: Gabriele from FL USA | Over 2 month ago I paid quite a sum of money for them to set up a LLC for me. The contract with them stated that it will take up to 35 days to get all my paperwork for the LLC. I never heard anything back on the status and on the website the status was blank too. Never ever anyone worked on it for 2 month. I contacted them twice and then finally got an answer telling me that the name I had chosen was not good and I have to pick a new name. That took them more 2 month to do. I wonder if I will ever get what I have paid for. A real disaster and I would give 0 points if I could.

Legalzoom, legal snail is more like it, 5/3/2005 10:56:15 AM | | Reviewer: Thomas Sukalac from Mableton, GA | I signed up for LegalZoom to create an LLC for me on March 13 with their stated turn around of 20 35 working days. On March 31, I got a notice that they had gotten around to filing with the Secretary of State. On April 25 I got junk mail in my new corporate name and I inquired when LegalZoom was going to advise me. On April 26 I got an email back advising that they had not received my documents back from the Secretary of State.
